Chloe Early

Chloe Early’s partial abstractions are really beautifully balanced. They remind me of some of my favourite Richard Hamilton paintings.

Breathtaking photography by Tiny Evil Hog.

Beth Shirrell — Kalakari Display

Beth Shirrell’s beautiful alphabet is full of such amazing detail. In her words:

I explored typographic expression by creating a display font that captures and reflects the ornate culture of India. Specifically taking impetus from the country’s architecture, the ancient art of henna painting, and Hindu iconography. The font is a collection of 26 majuscule forms that make up the English alphabet. Kalakari translates from Hindi to English to mean ornamentation.

Friday Type & Lettering

It’s nearly the weekend. Let us all look at some lettering!

Lots of credit to http://designersgotoheaven.com/ for a huge bunch of these.

Nicolai Hawalt — Car Crash Studies

Nicolai’s photographic series is at once macabre, disturbing and beautiful.

Below are some examples from his abstractions of mutilated exteriors, but he has also photographed a series of airbags and also car interiors after an accident that are thought provoking and disturbing.

Photography: NAM [Japan]

I particularly enjoy the photography by NAM that involves the suspension of everyday objects in complex webs that appear to hang from the ceiling and walls, but their whole portfolio is impressive — see more at http://www.n-a-m.org/.

Magic

Pardon me for a moment while I marvel at images of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter over in Orlando, Florida. These photos make it look genuinely magical! So much work must have gone into creating this place.

Calligraphy: Francisco Gigena [Argentina]

Francisco’s work really resonates with me. I love the colour combinations and the contrast between the delicate hairlines and the bold, dynamic letterforms.

See more of Francisco’s work on the Bēhance Network.

Package Design: Ah&Oh Studio [Poland]

I love this Babees honey packaging, especially the hand-drawn logo.

Illustration: Jim Tierney [USA]

Jim Tierney’s work is not going to be ‘news’, but I did still want to post it because I think it’s so amazing — he possesses some formidable talent.

He designed a series of Jules Verne books as his senior thesis while studying Illustration and they are simply spectacular; be sure to watch the video below too, as not only are they beautiful, they are also delightful interactive objects.

His website is http://www.jimtierneyart.com/ and blog http://jimtierney.blogspot.com/
